Affordable and Supportive Housing

From the very beginning, our mission was to deliver eco-friendly, affordable, custom enclosures — cost-effective sustainable structures in a timely fashion. From build to build we consistently noted the cost and time efficiencies, the low impact on the surrounding communities (noise, dust, pollution) and the reduction of waste overall vs. traditional builds. It became very clear how container housing could be a major solution to the housing crisis and the challenges governments face when looking for supportive housing solutions.

Benefits of shipping container builds and why it is appealing to developers and governments at all levels as a solution to affordable housing challenges:

• Time Efficiency: Response time to a crisis or need can be as little as 3 months for small projects (3 to 6 months) and will generally take less than a year for larger projects (6 to 10 months)
• Cost Efficiency: Our scope, which we provide to general contractors and developers starts as low as $80 USD a foot and includes windows, doors interior framing and insulation. The prefabricated structure is shipped to the site where interior finishes are completed by a general contractor.
• Additional Benefits: Quality control, onsite trades coordination, clean worksite, low community impact, modular and less waste.

Challenges & Solutions

• We've studied how Government bodies are addressing these needs and the model is broken. There is no current way to address this at scale and that has played a significant role in how we're approaching this crisis.  By mass-producing our shipping container housing model we are able to deploy housing at scale to those in urgent needs.
• Jane Jacobs said it best, "cities are an immense laboratory of trial and error, failure and success, in city building and city design." We need to collectively work together and learn from a broken model and we believe what we are proposing to build can drastically impact this global crisis at scale and with affordability in mind.

Statistics on the homelessness population in the US are horrific and to think we could make a serious impact here is humbling.

• A total of 552,830 people were experiencing homelessness on a single night in 2018. This number represents 17 out of every 10,000 people in the United States.
• Los Angeles County claims nearly 59,000 homeless, a 12 percent increase, while the city itself is up 16 percent.
• It's not only LA: Orange County is up 42 percent; Alameda County, 43 percent; Kern County, 50 percent; and San Francisco, 17 percent.
• Angelenos need to make $47.52 an hour to afford the median rent prices in the city.
