Diamonds in the Rough
A shipping container to an architect is much like a painter with a bank canvas in that they are full of endless possibilities! Of course, the best designs are always the most unassuming. Shipping container architecture is becoming progressively creative as the durability, flexibility and manipulative structure of containers allow for more ideas to be attempted with success, much like London architect James Whitaker’s idea. In a post on dwellboxes.com, Whitaker proposes a low-cost studio idea in Germany of a cluster of shipping containers positioned to follow the sunlight throughout the day. It’s 100% energy saving, but most of all, a gorgeous sight. By day, the interior provides a constant flow of natural light that follows each positioned window from sunrise to sunset and by night, it resembles a blossoming flower or an energy saver’s heaven.
